Founder – June Sarpong MBE

June has enjoyed a 15-year career which has already seen her become one of the most recognizable faces of British television, as well as being one of the UK’s most intelligent and dynamic young hosts. June is a media phenomenon and is the only host of her generation that is equally comfortable interviewing politicians, celebrities and members of the public.

June has also taken on the world’s most challenging live audiences, hosting 2005’s major Make Poverty History event in London’s Trafalgar Square and presenting at the UK leg of Live Earth in 2007. In 2008 alongside Will Smith she also hosted Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday celebrations in front of 30,000 people in London’s Hyde Park.

June is passionate about giving back, she has worked extensively with HRH Prince Charles for fifteen years as an ambassador for his charity the Prince’s Trust, she also campaigns for The One, Product (RED) and The White Ribbon Alliance. June was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) on the Queens 2007 new years honours list for her services to broadcasting, philanthropy and charity, making her along with Princess Anne’s daughter Zarah Phillips one of the youngest people to receive an MBE.

June is the Co-Founder of the WIE Network (Women:Inspiration & Enterprise). WIE first launched in NYC in 2010 and is in it’s third year in the UK, WIE Africa launched earlier this year. This acclaimed conference has featured leading speakers from a gamut of industries, previous speakers include: Sarah Brown, Melinda Gates, Arianna Huffington, Donna Karan, Queen Rania, Dr Jill Biden, Diane von Furstenberg, Nancy Pelosi, Iman, Lynn de Rothschild, Graca Machel, Joyce Banda and many more.

Alongside Mark Florman the CEO of the BVCA (British Venture Capital Association) June is the Co-Founder of the DNA Summit (Decide Now Act). The primary aim of DNA is to bring together some of the most innovative minds in the world to generate ideas and initiatives that will effect lasting social change by working together to tackle some of humanity’s most pressing issues. This intimate invite only event has attracted some worlds leading, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, scientists and game changers. Participants include: Paul Allen, Patrice Motsepe, Sir Tim Berners Lee, Sir Bob Geldof, Mo Ibrahim, Jochen Zietz, Sir Richard Branson, Will-I-AM, Bianca Jagger, Van Jones, David de Rothschild, Jimmy Wales and many more.

Amir Dossal

Founder and Chairman of the Global Partnerships Forum, Special Advisor to the Global Social Compliance Programme

Amir Dossal is Founder of the Global Partnerships Forum, a new global initiative to address economic & social challenges through innovative partnerships: www.globalpf.org. Amir is also Co-Initiator of the Pearl Initiative, which promotes transparency and accountability in the Gulf Region: www.pearlinitiative.org. He is also Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union for Global Partnerships.

Until very recently, Amir was the United Nation’s Liason for Partnerships. He developed strategic alliances with governments, corporations, foundations and philanthropists to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. One of Amir’s many responsibilities was as the UN’s Representative for the partnership with media mogul Ted Turner’s $1 billion donation, through the UN Foundation, supporting over 450 programmes and social investments of over $560million from other donors such as the Red Cross, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Coca-Cola, Rockefeller Foundation, Rotary International etc. In addition, Amir oversaw management of the UN Democracy Fund, which he established in 2005, to strengthen institutions and enhance democratic governance in new or restored democracies. Amir works globally across sectors, including Health, Education, Environment, Peace, Security and Human Rights. He has built strong links with governments, multilateral agencies, business group, foundations and networks, such as the Arab Foundations Forum, Business Council for International Understanding, Chambers of Commerce, China World Peace Foundation, Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, Commonwealth Business Council, European Foundation Centre, Foreign Policy Association, IDP Foundation, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, LTB Foundation, NEPAD Business Group, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, The Synergos Institute, United Nations Associations, US Council for International Business, US Department of State, etc

Amir has spearheaded the UN’s engagement with leaders in the finance, technology and pharmaceutical sectors, including 3Com, BT, Cisco, Ericsson, Google, GSK, Merck, Microsoft, Nestle, Novartis, Pfizer, Standard Chartered Bank, Telefonica, Vodafone, and Walmart. He also works with high-profile personalities to support humanitarian causes, such as the Countess Sondes, Cherie Blair, Geena Davis, the Duchess of York, Petra Nemcova.

Since joining the United Nations in 1985, Amir has led a number of new initiatives:

1997: Set-up the Management Policy Office to oversee reform within the United Nations.
1999: Established the UN Fund for International Partnerships, as the interface for the UN Foundation. 2004: Set-up Diaspora Networks for Africa and the Caribbean, to promote innovation & investments.
2005: Established the UN Democracy Fund.
2006: Set-up the Peace-Building Support Office to spur development in post-conflict countries.
2007: Established the UN Office for Partnerships, to oversee multiple partnership functions.
2007: Created a Business Advisory Council for Greater Tumen Region, to attract investment in NE Asia.
2008: Launched Digital Health Initiative focused on m-health applications & services, and telemedicine.
2008: Spearheaded key report of public & private sector commitments for MDG Summit ($1.6 billion). 2009: Substantially increased UN engagement with private sector and civil society in the Middle East. 2009: Launched several new initiatives in Arts, Culture and Inter-Faith.

Amir is a Chartered Accountant (FCA) trained with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, London in 1975. Prior to joining the United Nations, he worked in business for over 15 years. He has lived and worked in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, and North America. Amir regularly undertakes speaking engagements, and serves on several non- profit boards. He is married to Tas, and they have one son, Zecki.

Amir is also a special advisor and board member of the Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP), a business-driven programme for the continuous improvement of working and environmental conditions in global supply chains. www.gscpnet.com

David A. Rice

Managing Director of The Development Dividend Group, Africa Advisor, Milken Institute and Professor, New York University

David Rice is currently the Managing Director of The Development Dividend Group, a consulting firm advising investors and corporations in the US and Europe on how to invest in emerging markets to maximize shared value between profit and prosperity. As part of this role, he spent five months traveling through eight countries and southern and eastern Africa conducting research for s series of case studies.

David Rice is the Milken Institute’s Africa advisor and a professor at New York University, where he teaches about and conducts research on the impact of private capital investment on economic and social development in frontier markets. He is a contributing writer for Fortune magazine on issues related to business and investment in Africa. Rice is also the senior managing director of Development Equity Partners, a consulting firm advising investors and corporations on how to invest in emerging markets to maximize both profit and regional prosperity. Previously, Rice served as executive director of NYU’s Development Research Institute, where he worked alongside global development economist William Easterly. Rice has conducted field research and consulting projects throughout Africa and in other developing regions. He obtained a master’s degree from Harvard University. David’s previous roles include serving as Managing Director of Development Equity Partners and co-¬founding the Micro Equity Development Fund – a “private and social equity fund” making micro investments in small to medium-sized enterprises in emerging markets.
