Kpone-on-sea (Kpone) is a coastal community located along the coastline of the Tema District in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Its primary occupations are fishing and fish selling, it also has artisans and small scale farmers. Kpone - Katamanso is a picturesque town only 38 kilometres drive from Accra.
The Tema Free Zone is located in Kpone Katamanso district. The district has become a manufacturing hub and boasts and a growing number of industries both big and small. These industries offer employment to the local people as well as the neighboring communities.
Ghana has a rich sewing tradition, it is customary that any well brought up girl cannot go into marriage with a man who is unable buy her a Singer Sewing machine! Seamstresses (tailors), technicians are the largest employment sector in Ghana. There are about 5 million seamstresses in Ghana. Ghana National Tailors & Dressmakers Association has 35,000.00 plus members. The community of Kpone is no exception, many of the women in this community and surrounding areas make a living from sewing, these are primarily in the form of personal commissions.
The District is connected to the national grid and so has regular electricity supply. This has facilitated in the operation of a lot of businesses in the District.
